Jules is AMAZING!! She makes learning piano so much fun!! Do yourself a favor and hire Jules. You won’t regret it!

Jules teaches how to play the music not just the notes. Jules teaches in several ways so that the mind and body can grow and learn. A teacher will teach a note and tell you to play it and then your done ( wrong ) right notes shows you the how and why she gives you that passion and she does it in different directions so that a person is a musician and not a monkey sitting on a football. If a person has the drive with an open mind and heart they will be an artist. I have seen good and bad teachers however right notes she is not a teacher she is an artist that guides you to be better than the rest.

I highly recommend Jules for music lessons. I presently take Ukulele lessons from her. I am 76 years old and have a limited musical background. She has a sense of humor and is a positive instructor. I am learning slowly, but am having fun doing it.

Jules is a great music teacher! I would highly recommend her for anyone wanting to learn the guitar, uke, or piano and those who want to brush up on their skills. I love learning the new language of music and am so happy to have a teacher who is very skilled at teaching!

Working with Jules was a blast. Learning how to read, understand, and actually play music for the first time was hard but Jules made me feel comfortable and provided an excellent environment to learn and grow. Her approach to teaching is unique and delightful. I had many moments of success and when I was challenged she would encourage me to stay the course giving me awesome tools and tips to take home and practice. I highly recommend Jules for any level of student.

Our daughter has been taking piano and more recently voice with Jules for over 18 months. Our daughter is now almost 8 years old and has been taught excellent basics in piano and plays the piano on her own all the time. She then indicated an interest in singing – and being versatile and accomplished herself, Jules has been teaching both. Jules is honest with genuine concern for her students – that they learn the music well but also that they apply those disciplines throughout other areas in their lives. She is funny, kind, and thorough. If you are looking for an instructor for musical instruments, you’ll be grateful to have Jules as a teacher and mentor in your child’s life! — Donika S., Rancho Mirage, CA 12/28/14

Our son began guitar and piano instruction with Jules about three years ago. She is an extraordinary teacher and mentor to him. She focuses on fundamentals and works off of those so our son has a strong foundation. She is very pleasant but also set on good form, skills, and consistency. We are very fortunate to have her in our son’s life as a music teacher and just as a great role model. — Donika S., Rancho Mirage, CA 12/28/14

Jules started with our seven-year-old daughter on the piano just over a year ago. Several weeks ago, we also incorporated voice lessons. Jules is the real deal. She relates to our daughter at a level she can understand and presents a well-rounded lesson covering the instrument, music history, and keeps the lessons light and fun though always on focus. I can’t emphasize how talented Jules is across so many instruments. She is a multi-faceted gem that anyone serious about wanting to learn to play an instrument, music, or singing should definitely have on their radar. — Barry B., Palm Desert, CA Dec 26, 2014

Jules, in a word, is “amusicalmazing.” We started our then 10-year-old son with her on guitar three years ago. What Jules has imparted to him in terms of theory, mechanics, history, and everything to know about the guitar is astonishing. Jules is thorough, patient, extremely talented, and a natural teacher. Her passion for music and the ability to impart her wisdom to her students knows no bounds. In the past few months, Jules also began teaching our son the piano in addition to the guitar. He practices both instruments regularly and has improved confidence on many levels of his life (musically, academically, socially, etc.) — and I credit Jules for that. — Barry S. 12/26/14

Even though I have only been with Jules for a short time, she has taught me a great deal. Because of my schedule, we do mostly online lessons, and it works fantastic. Without it, I would still have to be taking sporadic lessons, and praying that one day I would be able to play the guitar. It’s incredibly convenient, and when I travel all I have to do is find an Internet connection and Jules is there, teaching me just as if I were in her studio. Now I can have some consistency to my lessons! Just today My husband noticed how much I have improved over the 5 weeks with Jules. — Shiela C., Toronto, Canada 3/5/15

“Jules has been teaching our daughter about the guitar; not just how to play the guitar, but also about the guitar. Jules is extremely knowledgable about music and is passionate about sharing that knowledge with our daughter. There have been only a handful of lessons, so far, but we can already see that the lessons are not only very informative but always tend to have a healthy element of fun as well. My wife and I are very happy to have Jules teaching our precious girl and we are excited to see how she’ll grow and thrive in this aspect of her musical education.” — John K., Puyallup, WA

I met my vocal and guitar mentor, Jules Hamland, in the sixth grade when my parents decided to let me take vocal lessons at The Music School in Palm Springs. I was a little girl who loved to sing but had never made it past her shower curtain. When Jules asked me to sing for her, I refused and spent the rest of the lesson covering my eyes while she coaxed me to belt a tune.

Jules Hamland influenced me and continues to influence me daily in many ways, but most importantly, she showed me the value of loving what you do, conquering your fears, participating in something you’re passionate about, and the importance of having a good laugh.

From the beginning of our lessons, I could tell that Jules would become one of my favorite people. She refused to tell me I sang well when I sounded like a dying cat, and always gave me a pat on the shoulder when I did well. Her constant honesty, bluntness, and hilarity kept me sane even on the most stressful weeks of my life. She constantly floods me with new genres of music, regardless of whether or not I enjoy it. According to Jules, she puts me through the “misery of the oldies,”  for the sake of expanding my knowledge when it comes to music.

Jules nurtured my voice to become what it is today. I went from sounding like a nasally six-year-old with no idea of what direction I wanted to take my voice, to a girl who sounds much better and knows what direction she wants to go in.

Now, when it comes to my guitar playing skills, I still wish I could be better. Even though the level of my strumming and picking abilities are less than desirable, Jules made me love playing the guitar. At first, I couldn’t put my guitar down fast enough. Because of the fact that Jules made me see that the best qualities in life are the ones you worked for, not the ones handed down to you, my guitar is the possession I hold most dear.

Aside from needing to know the theory behind it and finding methods that would help me remember those theories, Jules taught me that the only way I could excel is if I tried and the only way I would try is if I wanted it. She helped me see that the best music is the music that has passion and meaning behind the lyrics and the melody, and the only way for that to happen is if you not only know what you’re doing but if you love what you’re doing. Not a day goes by when she doesn’t push me to strive for higher goals and achievements.

Aside from being a musical genius, Jules is ridiculously talented and creative in all aspects of life. She’s written multiple novels, went to college school to study numerous subjects such as art and music, is a photographer, gardens, has owned her own restaurant, joined the military and lived in England for some time, traveled the world; and of course, Jules has written “thousands” of songs. Her creativity is an inspiration that most people only dream of achieving.

The simple fact that Jules loves with everything she is is a reason for which I consider her my favorite and most loved teacher/mentor. The light and laughter she brings to people’s lives while keeping them in check is a quality I strive for most. Aside from the fact that she has an immense amount of talent and creativity, her constant companionship and life lessons are what keeps me grounded and striving for the next big thing. — Nadia Ellise, 15, Desert Hot Springs, CA, 5/28/15

Love using FaceTime or Skype with Jules! It’s so convenient – she has been able to accommodate my sometimes shaky schedule, and she’s always so kind and encouraging. It’s hard for me to open up and try things when I know others are watching, so being able to do this from my own home makes me feel a little less self-conscious. Jules is knowledgable, fun and patient (thank God). I highly recommend her for guitar, uke, or piano! (I do a little of all of these and she is happy to let me choose what I am ready to work on). — Gail B., Los Angeles, CA

Having taken up the guitar at age 60 I ran into the F Chord ceiling and went to Jules for help. She not only made some helpful changes in my chord fingering but inspired me to keep at it by telling me how she overcame some chord difficulties when she was learning to play. And she was right–my perseverance paid off. Jules is kind, gentle, and made me quite comfortable. You can’t go wrong here. — Brian D,. Palm Springs, CA

I have taken several guitar lessons with Jules via FaceTime, and I’ve learned so much! It is so nice to be able to learn how to play an instrument from my own home. The lessons were tailored to me and my own progress. She not only teaches chords and notes but the music theory behind the chords, which can be applied to any instrument. Each lesson with her is more rewarding than the last. — Amanda K.,  Puyallup, WA

“I met Jules 2 years ago in Palm Springs when I enrolled for vocal class and acoustic guitar at a local music school and she changed my life.

When I started the class I just wanted to know how to sing and play some musics (sic) but she took me beyond that to a point where I wanted to learn beyond only technical play, she taught me to love music and want to learn every day more. Each class is so exciting because she goes deeper into the matter and makes it more clear and interesting each step.

Later she moved to another state and I was so devastated to lose her as a teacher, But then I decided to take lessons on Skype and the results are just amazing. I understood that no matter how far she will be I can still learn a lot from her. I very recommend her lessons because she is really good at what she does and you will realize that real quick. Do give a try, you will not regret it. I truly recommend!—Fabio B., Los Angeles, CA

I learned under Jules for almost five years, and out of all the teachers I’ve ever had, whether inside or out of school, she has been one of the most awesome, helpful, and friendly instructors I’ve ever had the pleasure of being taught under. She taught me how to play the guitar, piano, ukulele, and harmonica from scratch. She helped me master many songs, and showed me certain tricks for memorizing notes. She also taught me many other things besides songs, specifically scales, warm-ups, riffs, strumming patterns, how to read music, how to play in and stick to tempo, and, most importantly, how to enjoy and put all of your soul into what you’re playing; this leads me into my final point: inspiration. A truly great teacher inspires their students to go out and pursue, completely voluntarily, what they’ve been taught that they’ve enjoyed. Before I met Jules, I knew NOTHING about music and had absolutely zero interest in music. Keep in mind, I was younger back then (fourth grade), and when every Monday came around, I would sigh and say to myself, “Here she comes again…” Over time, as I somehow found my way through middle school, she built up my passion for music, and before I knew it, I LOVED whenever I would have a lesson with her. And after those five years, I find myself signing up for AP Music Theory at my high school, well-versed in the realm of music, and super excited to learn more and possibly compose. And I know that the only reason I’ve continued with music and now actively YEARN to pursue and play it is because of Jules’ teachings, and friendship. I cannot recommend her music lessons enough. They are unlike any other kind of lessons you will ever find on this planet.” — Charlie S., Rancho Mirage, CA

I highly recommend taking lessons from her.”—Matthew O., Post Falls, ID

I took guitar and uke lessons from Jules and could not have asked for a better teacher. She was patient and kind, and lessons were fun, not stressful. She really helped me learn the basics and then improve at a good pace! Plus, she was always giving me great tips to make my playing more “musical” so that I just sounded better. She’s a gem!—Patty R., Sedona, AZ
